Here is some essential bread bread equipment that my visitors like to use when making a banana bread. These tools range from basic loaf pans to more advanced mashers and digital thermometers. If you are looking for recipes, check out Bread Dad’s section on Banana Bread Recipes.

- Airtight Ingredient Containers – Protect your ingredients by storing them in airtight containers. For example, flour (when not stored in an airtight container) can absorb a lot of moisture from the air. This extra moisture throws off recipes and can lead to the middle sinking in banana breads. In addition, airtight containers protect ingredients from exposure to pests, dust, etc.
- Baking Parchment Paper – Baking parchment paper is probably the best solution to prevent a banana bread from sticking to the bottom of a bread pan (especially if you are using really sticky ingredients such as chocolate chips or fresh blueberries). It also allows you to lift the banana bread out of the pan without disturbing the top of the banana bread… in case you have added any special ingredients (such as chopped nuts or chocolate chips) to the top of the banana bread.
- 9 x 5 Inch Bread Pan – All of my banana bread recipes are based on using a standard 9 by 5 inch metal bread pan.
- Banana Masher – Well, it is really a potato masher. However, some people like to use a masher (instead of a fork) in order to get a smoother & less chunky banana “mash”.
- Digital Thermometer – Instead of a wooden toothpick, digital thermometers are generally better at telling you if a banana bread is fully baked. It is definitely an essential piece of banana bread equipment.
- Kitchen Scale – Many of my international visitors like to use kitchen scales because weighing ingredients (e.g. using gram measurements) can often be more accurate than using measuring cups & spoons.
- Measuring Cups – In America, many people use measuring cups to measure larger banana bread ingredients (such as flour, sugar and mashed bananas).
- Measuring Spoons – In America, measuring spoons are often used to measure smaller banana bread ingredients (such as salt and baking soda).
- Large Mixing Bowls – Use a large mixing bowl when making your batter. This will help to reduce spills, flour flying out of the bowl, etc.
- Mini Loaf Pans – These pans help you to create a mini banana breads. Mini banana loaves are great as homemade gifts. They are smaller than regular banana breads but larger than standard muffins.
- Muffin Pans – It is usually super easy to convert your favorite banana bread into delicious banana muffins. Banana muffins are great for snacks and are faster to bake that regular sized banana breads.
- Muffin Cups – Muffin cups are liners placed inside muffin trays to prevent the muffins from sticking to the tray. These muffins cups are often made from paper. But you can also find silicone muffin cups, etc.
- Oven Thermometers – These hanging oven thermometers can tell you if your oven has been fully preheated to the correct temperature. This can save you from under or over baked banana breads due to an oven that is too cold or too hot.
- Soft Flexible Spatulas – These tools help you to loosen the banana bread from the sides of the bread pan.
- Serrated Bread Knives – Serrated bread knives make it easier to slice your banana bread without squashing the banana bread. You get a “cleaner” cut.
- Wire Cooling Racks – Wire cooling racks allow the banana bread to cool down and not have a soggy “bottom” (as the wire cooling rack is raised off the ground and this allows moisture to escape from the cooling banana bread on all sides).
- Wooden Spoons – I prefer to use a large wooden spoon when mixing banana bread batter (instead of an electric mixer). Electric mixers can overmix a banana bread batter and this can result in a rubbery & gummy banana bread.
