This page explores the settings used to make bread machine “quick breads” (such as banana bread and pumpkin bread) that use baking soda/powder and not yeast. Bread machines vary and thus the setting name used to make “quick breads” (e.g. banana bread) differs on many machines. Below, I have tried to list the setting names used on some of the most popular machines & models. The setting is usually called either “Quick Bread” or “Cake”. However, many bread machines (esp. older machines) do not have their manuals online so I can not find the settings for those machines. Moreover, some of the more basic machines can not make quick breads. This page looks at the settings used for machines from Amazon, Breville, Cuisinart, Hamilton Beach, KBS, Kitchenarm, Sunbeam, Zojirushi and many more.
Be aware that some bread machines use the “Quick” setting for quick bread recipes (e.g. banana bread) that use baking soda/powder. HOWEVER, other bread machines use the “Quick” setting for fast sandwich bread recipes that use yeast. Yeast-based settings will NOT work for quick bread recipes that use baking soda/powder. You need to use the correct setting on YOUR specific make & model machine in order to correctly make moist banana breads, pumpkin breads, zucchini breads, etc.
Please let me know in the comment section if you use a different setting on your machine to make quick breads (e.g. banana breads). Please include the manufacturer name & model number as machines differ. FYI – You need to know the MODEL NUMBER of your bread machine in order to find the right setting. For example, a manufacturer will sometimes use different setting names & numbers on their different models (esp. new vs older models or large vs small capacity machines). Moreover, some manufacturers have multiple models (with different formats) so you need to know your specific model number in order to find the correct setting.

- Amazon Bread Maker (model # BM1349-UL-W) – To make “quick breads” such as banana bread, cornbread or pumpkin bread, you should probably use the “Cake” and/or “Bake” settings on this machine.
- One of my visitors (thanks Bridget) stated the following “I’ve only had this bread maker for a few weeks but I’ve made @3-4 loaves each week and so far, so good! It is, as mentioned, a vertical loaf but the machine size itself is smaller so perfect for my compact kitchen. I followed your tips on settings and settled on the Cake setting since it’s 1:50 hours. It’s worked on several loaves without yeast so far! Thank you for providing so many details – it’s been so incredibly helpful!”
- Another visitor (thank Johanna) stated “I love this cornbread recipe; it’s very much like the Jiffy corn muffins. I have an Amazon Basics bread machine and I use the “cake” setting to make it. So simple and delicious! Thanks Bread Dad!”
- However, other visitors have found that the “Cake” setting did not bake my banana bread recipe for long enough. They had to use the “Bake” setting (after the “Cake” setting was used) to bake the banana bread for a little longer. One of my visitors (thanks Kathy) stated that she tested the banana bread with a long wooden skewer and it needed an extra 5 minutes with the “Bake” setting in her Amazon machine.
- Jerri stated “I own the AMAZON BASICS bread machine, and made my first banana bread loaf today. I used the CAKE setting, but checked when done with skewer. I baked an additional 5 minutes on the BAKE cycle, as there was residue on the skewer when it finished on the CAKE setting. My advice: use an extra 5 minutes n BAKE!”
- Please let me know in the comment section if the “Cake” setting worked best for you when making my quick bread recipes (e.g. banana bread) with the Amazon machine. Or did you have to use the “Bake” setting in addition to the “Cake” setting. Also let me know if you think my 1.5 lb Bread Machine Banana Bread works better (than my 2 lb Bread Machine Banana Bread) in this Amazon basics machine.
- Breadman 2 Pound Bread Maker (model # BK1200SS) – This model has a “Quick Bread” setting (setting 6) and “Cake” setting (setting 12). Since the machine also has a “Rapid” setting (setting 4), I am guessing that the “Quick Bread” setting on this machine is for baking soda/powder based quick bread recipes such as banana bread. However, please let me know if this is correct in the comments below as I do not have access to their manual.
- Moreover, given the size of the bread pan in this bread machine, you might have better luck making my 1.5 lb Bread Machine Banana Bread (as this machine might underbake my 2 lb Bread Machine Banana Bread).
- In addition, I hope you will use the comment section below to tell us if the “Quick Bread” or “Cake” setting works best to make banana bread & other quick breads with this machine.
- Breville Custom Loaf Bread Maker (model # BBM800XL) – You should try the “Yeast Free” setting. Please let me know in the comment section if the yeast free setting works well when making quick breads (e.g. banana breads) with this machine. FYI – In the comment below from Daniel, he stated that you need to bake “quick breads” (e.g. banana bread) for only 1 hour in the Breville when using the “Yeast Free” setting and not the full 1:20 hours. Please read his very informative comment below for more details.
- One of my visitors (thanks Daniel!!) made the following comment on my Bread Machine Banana Bread page about the setting that he uses with his Breville – “I have a Breville BBM800XL and I use it to make these breads (both the Banana and the Corn Bread recipes). It works pretty well on the recommended “Yeast Free” setting. I found I have to make two adjustments: 1) Absolutely need to manually mix the ingredients before putting the bread pan in the machine. Due to the nature of the ingredient mix, it isn’t sticky enough to be grabbed by the paddle and to pull ingredients out of the corners of the pan. So if you manually stir and make sure the corners are thoroughly mixed as well you’ll be good to go. 2) Bake 20 minutes less than the Yeast Free setting. Default timer setting is 1 hr 20 minutes and that always produces a loaf that is over done. If you modify the bake time to 1 hour and completely disable the “keep warm” cycle (set KW cycle time to 0), it bakes near perfect. Thanks for these recipes – love love love the “sweet” breads!!”
- One of my visitors (thanks Krista!!) stated when making my bread machine banana bread “Unbelievably good… My breville machine has no yeast. Or sweet. I used the no yeast setting and it’s terrific.”
- Briskind 19-in-1 Compact Bread Maker Machine (model #BM8605) – To make banana breads, etc. with this machine, you need to use the “Cake/Quick Bread” setting (setting 5). FYI – This is a small compact bread machine that focuses on 1 lb and 1 lb recipes. It can’t make larger 2 lb “quick breads”. I would suggest making my 1 lb or 1.5 lb banana bread recipe with this machine. If want to see what a 1 lb and 1.5 lb banana bread looks like when it is make with a compact Briskind, please visit my 1 lb Bread Machine Banana Bread page (for photos and 1 lb & 1.5 lb recipes).
- Briskind 2 Pound Stainless Steel Breadmaker (model #BM8206) – To make banana breads and other quick breads with this machine, you need to use the “Cake/Quick Bread” setting (setting 5). Please let me know in the comment section if this machine works better with 2 lb or 1.5 lb bread machine banana bread recipes.
- Crownful Automatic Bread Machine, 2LB Programmable Bread Maker (model # BM4406-UL) – This machine appears to use the “Quick” setting (setting 4) to make moist “quick breads” that use baking soda/powder. However, it also has a “Cake” setting (setting 8). Please let me know in the comment section if the “Quick” or “Cake” setting works best when making quick breads (e.g. banana breads) with this specific machine.
- Cuisinart CBK-100 2lb Bread Maker – You should try the “Cake” Setting (setting 7). However, be aware that the CBK-100 manual states “If a quick bread is a little moist on top when baking is complete (moisture will depend on ingredients of the quick bread), leave it in the bread maker for an extra 10 to 15 minutes with no heat, and it will continue baking – this is called “after cooking.” Please let me know in the comment section if the “Cake” setting works well when making quick breads (e.g.. banana breads) with this machine.
- Cuisinart Compact Automatic Bread Maker (model # CBK-110C) – One of my visitors said that they used the Cake setting (setting 11) to make pumpkin bread with this Cuisinart model. Thank Jessie for the tip!
- Cuisinart Bread Maker, New Compact Automatic (model # CBK-110P1) – You should try the “Cake” Setting (setting 11) – However, given the machine’s compact size and vertical-oriented bread pan, I am not sure how my banana bread & quick bread recipes turn out in this machine (as they might need extra baking?). Different bread pan shapes will affect baking times & outcomes. Moreover, according to the CBK-110P1 manual, the company states under setting 11 (Cake) ”If the finished bread is a little moist on top when baking is complete (moisture will depend on ingredients of the cake), leave it in the bread maker on Keep Warm for 10 to 15 minutes, and it will continue baking – this is called “after cooking.” Please let me know in the comment section if the “Cake” setting works well when making quick breads (e.g. banana breads) with this machine. If the cake setting is not working for you, you might want to experiment with premixing a quick bread recipe (outside the bread machine in a mixing bowl) and try their Bake setting (setting 12).
- Also let me know in the comment section below if my 2 lb or my 1.5 lb banana bread recipe works better in your compact Cuisinart bread machines. This would be a great help to other compact Cuisinart users so they can pick the correct banana bread size for this machine.
- Coop made the following statement about the Cuisinart CBK110 model on my cornbread page – “I have used store bought mixes and it does not happen, only when I try to make recipes from books or from websites.”
- Here is my edited response – Most online “quick bread” recipes are designed for the “average” 2 lb bread machine. However, since bread machine pans vary in size and shape (e.g. vertical or horizontal), the time need to bake the “quick bread” can vary. Unfortunately, the Cuisinart CBK-110 bread machine seems to have a problem with some 2 lb online moist “quick bread” recipes (e.g. 2 lb banana bread). They may be aware of this issue because in the Cuisinart CBK-110 manual (under the cake setting section), it states “If the finished bread is a little moist on top when baking is complete (moisture will depend on ingredients of the quick bread), leave it in the bread maker on Keep Warm for 10 to 15 minutes with no heat, and it will continue baking – this is called “after cooking.”
- For your machine, I would try using 1.5 lb “quick bread” recipes (versus the standard 2 lb online recipes) because 1.5 lb recipes will bake faster (since they are smaller than 2 lb recipes). Here is my 1.5 lb recipe for bread machine banana bread (it is on my 1 lb page). However, there are not many 1.5 lb online bread machine “quick bread” recipes. For example, I only have a 1.5 lb recipe for my banana bread (at the moment). Or if you want to make my 2 lb “quick bread” recipes, you need to follow the Cuisinart manual suggestion and experiment with their “Keep Warm” option after the cake setting has finished. Of course, after the cake setting has finished, wear oven mitts (as the pan will be very hot) and use a long wooden skewer or digital thermometer to see if the “quick bread” has been fully baked. Or after the cake setting has finished (instead of the “Keep Warm” option), you can try using the machine’s “bake” setting for a little extra baking.
- Cuisinart CBK-200 2lb Convection Bread Maker – You should try the “Quick Bread/Cake” Setting (setting 7) with 2lb setting. However, be aware that the CBK-200 manual states “If a quick bread is a little moist on top when baking is complete (moisture will depend on ingredients of the quick bread), leave it in the bread maker for an extra 10 to 15 minutes with no heat, and it will continue baking – this is called “after cooking.” Also be aware that convection-based machines often bake things faster than regular machines (so I wouldn’t try the dark crust setting until you get comfortable with the machine). Please let me know in the comment section if the “Quick Bread/Cake” setting works well when making quick breads (e.g. banana breads) with this machine & if you had to adjust the crust setting, etc.
- FYI – One of my visitors (Thanks Malchah!) used setting 7 and stated in the comment section “I made this classic banana bread recipe in my Cuisinart CBK 200 Bread Machine. I used softened butter, walnuts and machine setting 7). It was perfect and was so good. It is the best banana bread I have made. I really appreciated the detailed instructions.“
- Cuisinart Convection Bread Maker (model # CBK-210NAS) – For this model, you should try the “Cake” setting (setting 14). According to the Cuisinart CBK-210NAS manual, the Cake setting runs for a total time of 1:53 hours. The manual also states “Often referred to as “quick breads,” recipes for this program are usually baked in a loaf pan or muffin tin. They are a batter-type bread rather than a yeast dough. If the finished bread is a little moist on top when baking is complete (moisture will depend on ingredients of the cake), leave it in the bread maker on Keep Warm for 10 to 15 minutes, and it will continue baking“. Please let me know in the comment section if the “Cake” setting works well with this specific machine or if it needs extra baking time.
- Elite Gourmet EBM8103B Programmable Bread Maker Machine (model # EBM8103B) and Elite Gourmet EBM8103SS Programmable Bread Maker Machine (model # EBM8103SS) – The online manual for these machines state “If you are new to bread making, please only use the recipes provided by us to gain enough bread making experience before trying out outside recipes or developing your own. If you use an entirely different recipe that is not especially designed for our bread maker, you cannot use the pre-programmed automatic settings. It’s recommended that you strictly follow a provided recipe first and then make adjustments based on a proven recipe to get your house special bread.” For example, the cake setting recipe included in the manual only uses 2/3 cup of self rising flour. This would result in a small cake. In contrast, my banana bread recipe uses 2 cups of flour plus assorted other ingredients. Larger baked goods generally require more baking time. To make “quick bread” recipes (e.g. banana or pumpkin bread) that are larger than the cake recipe in the Elite manual, you might have to experiment with premixing the ingredients and using the “cook” setting (setting 19) or using the “cake” setting but baking it for a little longer (once the “cake” setting is finished) using the “cook” setting. FYI – Based on the recipe in the manual, the “quick bread” setting (setting 2) on this machine is used for yeast-based sandwich breads (and not for baking soda/powder-based recipes).
- Please let me know in the comment section if you were able to make a banana bread with the “cake” setting with your Elite Gourmet bread machine. Also is your machine better with my 1 lb, 1.5 lb or 2 lb banana bread? Given the small cake recipe included their manual, this machine might be better with my 1 lb or 1.5 lb banana bread loaves.
- Tam stated in the comments section “Elite Gourmet machine. I used the 2llb recipe. It fit well in the machine. I used the cake setting. The bread was not done, so after I used the cook setting for 30 mins extra. It came out delicious.”. Based on the pan size for the Elite Gourmet (model # EBM8103B), you might be better off making my 1.5 lb banana bread recipe (and the 1.5 lb version might eliminate/reduce the need for any extra baking time). Let me know if the 1.5 lb recipe works better with your Gourmet Elite machine.
- Hamilton Beach Bread Maker Machine (model # 29882) – You should use the “Quick” Setting (setting 4). According to the Hamilton Beach Manual, this setting is “For quick-bread recipes that do not use yeast for rising and instead may use baking powder or soda.” FYI – I use the Quick setting (setting 4) on my Hamilton Beach machine to make all of my quick bread recipes (e.g. banana bread & pumpkin bread).
- Hamilton Beach Bread Maker Machine Artisan and Gluten-Free (model # 29885) – You should use the “Quick Bread” Setting (setting 7). Don’t use the “Cake” setting (setting 10) on this model as the time looks too short for a moist quick bread (e.g. banana bread).
- Hamilton Beach Premium Dough & Bread Maker Machine (model # 29888) – You should use the “Quick Bread” Setting (setting 6). Don’t use the “Cake” setting (setting 13) on this model as the time looks too short for a moist quick bread (e.g. banana bread).
- Hamilton Beach 29890 Premium Dough & Bread Maker Machine (model # 29890) – For this model, I would try the “cake” setting (setting 17) because it runs for 2:03 hours (which I assume includes mixing & baking time). In contrast, the “quick bread” setting (setting 6) runs for only 1:08 hours (which seems kind of short). Please let me know in the comment section if you used the “cake” or “quick bread” setting in order to successfully make a banana bread with this model.
- Involly 15 in 1 Bread Maker, 2 LB Bread Machine (model # BM8216) – One of my visitors (thanks Jody!!) recommended using the “Cake” setting (setting 13) when making bread machine “quick breads” such as banana bread and pumpkin bread.
- KBS Large 17-in-1 Bread Machine (model # MBF-010) – If you want to make a 2 lb banana bread, pumpkin bread, etc. with your KBS, you should try the “Cake” setting (setting 10). However, according to the KBS manual, the “Cake” setting only runs for 1:33 (and the baking portion is 1:10 of the 1:33). In contrast, the quick bread/cake setting on many other bread machines runs for 1:40-1:50 hours (and the baking portion running for approximately 1:20-1:30 hours). For MY 2 lb (not 1.5 lb) quick bread & cake recipes, this might mean that KBS users might also have to use the “Bake” setting (setting 14) after using the “Cake” setting and bake the quick bread for an extra 10-20 minutes. Read the comments below by some of my visitors for their KBS baking tips regarding my 2 lb quick bread recipes (e.g. bread machine banana bread). Also please let me know in the comment section if you are using the “Cake” setting only or if you have to bake the “quick bread” for longer by using the “Cake” AND “Bake” settings. Also please let me know if you made my 2 lb or 1.5 lb recipes with your KBS. Your comments are a great help to other KBS users.
- 1/13/25 – Important – If you want to make a banana bread with just the “Cake” setting on a KBS (and NOT use the “Bake” setting as well), you should make my 1.5 lb bread machine banana bread (not 2 lb recipe). For more details, please see my 1.5 lb recipe because I have successfully made my 1.5 lb banana bread recipe in my KBS 19-in-1 Automatic Bread Machine (model # MBF-016). However, the banana bread was only 2 1/2 inches high when made with this KBS (due to the width of the KBS pan).
- The following KBS comments were made by my visitors regarding how they made a 2 lb (not 1.5 lb) bread machine banana bread, etc.
- One of my visitors (“Dad”) stated when making my bread machine banana bread recipe that he “Used a KBS machine on cake setting. Both loaves required an additional 20 min of bake time. Results were excellent. Neither loaf lasted over 1 day before I was being asked to bake another. Great recipe!!! 5 star.”
- Another KBS user (thanks Abby!) stated “I made the pumpkin bread using the “cake” setting on medium color. I did have to use the “Bake” setting after for an additional 40 minutes. Hope this helps!”
- Marianne posted in the comment section “KBS 17-1 bread machine. Success first time because of your great tips! I used the cake setting (you don’t select loaf size on this bread maker for the cake program). I used a long skewer to check for doneness at the end of the program and it was still very gooey. I then used the bake program and added 18 minutes total. Cooled in the pan, on the counter at least 10 minutes. Then cooled completely before cutting. I served it at a dinner party that evening.”
- Mandi stated in the comment section “My KBS needed “cake” setting, on dark, with an extra 11 minutes on bake and it is PERFECTION!”
- Cathy made my bread machine apple bread and said “I made it using my KSB 17 in 1 bread maker. I used the cake setting then added 10 minutes more using the bake setting. I tested it with a thermometer and it read 194 degrees F. It was perfect!”.
- KBS 2LB Bread Maker, 19-in-1 Automatic Bread Machine (model # MBF-016) – Bread Dad owns this model and I use just the “Cake” setting (setting 15) in order to make my 1.5 lb bread machine banana bread (NOT my 2 lb banana bread version). Be aware that my 1.5 lb banana bread is only 2 1/2 inches tall when made with this KBS (due to the width of the KBS pan). If you want to make my 2 lb (not 1.5 lb) banana bread in this machine, you will need to use the “Cake” setting and then bake the 2 lb banana bread (with the “Bake” setting) for an extra 10-20 minutes. For more details, see my visitors’ baking comments above in the KBS 17-in-1 section.
- One of my visitors (thanks Kerry!) pointed out a potential issue to be aware of if you use the cake setting – “Turns out when you use the cake setting the nut dispenser doesn’t open”.
- Kitchen in the Box 15-in-1 (model #BM01) – I can’t find an instruction manual for this machine online so I do not have any information regarding the machine’s setting details (e.g. a setting’s mixing & baking time length). Therefore, for the most accurate information, you should read YOUR machine’s manual. However, if it is not available, I would try the “Cake” setting (setting 10) – if this setting is used for baking soda/powder recipes (and not yeast-based recipes) on this machine – and then test the banana bread (or other quick bread) with a long wooden skewer to see if it is done. Of course, wear oven mitts when skewer testing as the pan & machine will be hot. If the banana bread/quick bread is not done then I would further bake it using the “Bake” setting (setting 14). Please let me know in the comment section if the “Cake” setting works when making quick breads (e.g. banana breads) with this machine. Or if you need to use the “Bake” setting in addition to the “Cake” setting.
- KITCHENARM 29-in-1 SMART Bread Machine (model # 85203) – Based on our visitor comments, you should try the “Cake” setting (setting 22) with a medium or dark crust setting. Please let me know in the comment section if you are using the “Cake” setting or another setting in order to make quick breads (e.g. banana breads) with this machine.
- Here is some Kitchenarm advice from one of our amazing visitors (Thanks Kristin!!) – “Kitchenarm 29-in-1, menu 21 (Quick) works, but it is for 1.5 lbs loaf only. My first attempt could have used a few minutes more baking. I set it to dark crust for my 2nd try and I like how it turned out. I just got Kitchenarm to send me the cycle breakdown. Their service, even through Amazon is fantastic. Bake time with #21 (Quick) is 70 minutes. I think I’ll try #22 (Cake) next time. This one is also restricted to 1.5 lb setting. Bake time is 75 minutes in that menu. Love your recipes, thank you!”
- Kristin also stated in a later comment “To clarify, the bake time I mention is the actual bake time in the cycles without the mixing. (Quick Bread #21 full cycle time 1:42 hour with 70 minutes bake time, Cake #22 full cycle time 1:49 hour with 75 minutes bake time). For the cake setting experiment, I tried medium crust and added 4 minutes manually to the bake time (you can press the time + button during that cycle to adjust this). It came out great as well. I’ll probably go dark with no adjustments on cake #22 next time.”
- Neretva Bread Maker Machine, 20-in-1 2LB Automatic Breadmaker (model # PE8866GR) – I think this machine uses the “Cake” setting (setting 10) to make “quick breads” but I can not find its manual online (so I am not sure). Some of our visitors (thanks Susan!) state that it may take an extra hour using the cake setting in order to finish quick breads with the cake setting. As an alternative, you can try premixing the banana bread in a separate bowl and then baking the batter in the bread machine with only the “Bake” setting (setting 19) – no cake setting involved. Please let me know in the comment section if you are using the cake setting (or another setting) to make quick breads e.fg. banana breads) with this machine.
- One of our visitors (thanks Carter!) stated the following about making “quick breads” (e.g. banana bread) with the Neretva – “I use the homemade option to knead the bread 30mins, then switch to the bake and bake for 90mins”.
- Neretva Bread Maker, 3.3LB Larger Bread Machine 15-in-1 (model #PE9806U) – One of my visitors (thanks Mark!!) stated “I made your northern style sweet cornbread in my Neretva PE9806U super large capacity bread machine….Settings were cake-08, light crust, and loaf size 1250G. It turned out perfect using the recipe that you provided”. FYI – If the cornbread recipe worked for Mark then my other “quick bread” recipes (e.g. banana bread & pumpkin bread) should also work for this specific machine based on Mark’s settings. Please post in the comment section below if the “Cake” setting worked for your Neretva model #PE9806U.
- OSIPOTO 17 in 1 Automatic Stainless Steel Bread Machine (model # BM8205) – For this model, I would try setting 7 (cake setting). However, my 2 lb “quick bread” recipes (e.g. banana bread) might not be fully baked because this machine seems better with my 1.5 lb recipes (given its pan size). If this is true, you will need to test the 2 lb banana bread to see if it is fully baked. If it is not, you will need to further bake the 2 lb banana bread by using setting 17 (bake setting). Or you can try my 1.5 lb banana bread recipe (which is on my 1 lb banana bread page) as it might better fit this machine. Visitors – Please post in the comment section below any lessons learned when making banana bread (or similar recipes) with this machine. This would be a great help to other Osipoto users.
- The machine also has a “quick bread” setting (setting 6) which the manual claims is for recipes with baking soda/powder. However, when you look at their recipe book (in 2025), the recipe for setting 6 (quick bread) is a yeast-based recipe for “quick white bread” (so this setting is more likely used for making fast/rapid yeast-based breads and not recipes such as banana bread). Let me know if they update their manual or recipe book so these areas better match.
- Oster 5838 (discontinued machine) – This old model has only yeast-based settings and a “bake” setting. It doesn’t have a setting for baking soda/powder-based recipes such as banana bread & pumpkin bread.
- However, one of my visitors (thanks Jack!!) had a work around and stated (on my bread machine pumpkin bread page) that “‘Sweet’ settings on my machine didn’t work and upon reading manual for Oster 5838 I don’t think any of the pre-timed ones would. I just set to bake at light crust for 1:40 and it came out great”.
- Oster Expressbake Breadmaker (model # CKSTBRTW20) – It looks like this Oster model does not seem to have a dedicated setting for “quick breads” (e.g. banana bread). According to their manual, the “Quick” setting (setting 7) on this machine is designed “for baking bread quickly – time is slightly longer than Express Bake but the texture will be finer.” Thus it seems designed for rapidly making yeast-based sandwich breads and not for “quick breads” that use baking soda/powder. FYI – Some bread machines focus on only making yeast-based sandwich breads.
- If you are trying to make my bread machine quick bread recipes (e.g. banana bread and pumpkin bread), you might like to experiment with the “Bake” setting (setting 12). Premix the batter in a large bowl and then use the bread machine to bake the banana bread. If you try the “Quick” or “Bake” setting on your Oster Expressbake Breadmaker to make banana bread, etc., please let me know in the comment section below how it came out.
- Be aware that one of our visitors (thanks Tori) tried making banana bread and pumpkin bread with the “Quick” setting (setting 7) on her Oster Expressbake Breadmaker (model # CKSTBRTW20). She said that both baked goods came out great. However, another visitor (Paul) tried making my cornbread recipe and it came out a little overbaked when he used setting 7 on his Oster machine.
- Another visitor (thanks Kenz) stated “Reporting in with the 2 lb Oster results! I hit #7, used the exact weights (230g banana) and it was PERFECT. Soft and moist but cohesive with a caramel crust. Extremely good. Butter should be melted or VERY soft.”
- Oster Expressbake Bread Maker with Gluten-Free Setting (model # CKSTBR9050-NP) – You should try the “Cake” setting (setting 13). However, this setting supposedly only runs for 1:30 hours (versus 1:40-1:50 hours in other machines). Please post in the comment section if the cake setting worked for you when making a bread machine banana bread, etc.
- One of our visitors (thanks Jason!) commented below about making a banana bread with this Oster model and stated “Using the Cake preset (#13), it came out perfectly baked and nicely browned. No extra bake time needed”.
- Oster Bread Maker with ExpressBake | 2 Pound Capacity (model # 2114579) – I can’t find the manual for this machine but I would try setting #11 (Cake) on this Oster model. FYI – This Oster model also has a Bake setting (setting 10). Please post in the comment section if the Cake setting worked for you when making a bread machine banana bread, etc. with the Oster Bread Maker model # 2114579.
- Panasonic Automatic Mini Breadmaker (model # SD-PN100) – You should use the “Cake” setting (setting 16) for this small bread machine. Please post in the comment section below if the “Cake” setting worked for your Panasonic Mini Breadmaker.
- One of my visitors (thanks Philippa!) stated “I used the 1 lb banana loaf recipe using the Panasonic SD-PN100 (very small loaf) on the cake setting. It worked very well”.
- Another of my visitors (thanks Leah!!) stated in the comments in my 1 lb & 1.5 lb Banana Bread page that “I baked the 1.5 lb recipe in my Panasonic SD-PN100 (cake setting 16) and it turned out absolutely perfectly”.
- Panasonic SD-RD250 Bread Maker with Automatic Fruit & Nut Dispenser (model # MSCSDRD250) – With this bread machine, it looks like you have to premix the moist “quick bread” in a separate bowl and then use the “Bake” setting if you want to finish it in the bread machine (as the machine does not appear to have a dedicated cake/quick bread setting). Unfortunately, I don’t know how long you have to bake banana breads (and other “quick breads”) in this machine. Please post in the comment section if you use the “Bake” setting to make banana breads (and other “quick breads”) with this machine and what time length did you use to bake your banana bread.
- Panasonic Automatic Bread Maker (model #SD-2501) – This model does not have a “Cake” or “Quick Bread” (banana bread) setting. The SD-2501 manual states if you want to make cakes with this machine, you need to premix the ingredients in a separate bowl and then use the machine “Bake Only” setting (setting 15). However, I am not sure how long to bake my recipes in this machine (as the recipe baking times listed in their manual are shorter than the times used by machines that I own). Also when looking at the “Banana Yoghurt Tea Bread” recipe listed in their manual, it appears closer in size/weight to my 1.5 lb bread machine banana bread (not my 2 lb version). Visitors – If you have any insights on how long to bake with the SD-2501 machine (& what size banana bread to use), please let me know in the comment section below.
- Panasonic Bread Machine, Automatic Bread Maker (model # SD-R2550) – This Panasonic model has “Cake” and “Bake Only” settings. According to the SD-R2550 manual, the “Cake” setting runs for a total time of 1:55 minutes. Please post in the comment section if the “Cake” setting worked for you (when making a bread machine banana bread). Or did you have to use the “Bake Only” setting to make a banana bread with this model? FYI – According to one of our visitors (thanks Troy), my banana bread recipe worked when he used the “Cake” setting.
- Panasonic (model # SD-YR2550) – I couldn’t find a manual for this model but I would use the “Cake” setting (setting 25) on this machine to make my banana bread-type recipes. This model does not have a setting for baking soda/powder-based “quick breads”.
- One of my visitors (thanks Christopher!) stated “My bread machine is Panasonic SD-YR2550 using menu 25 makes a perfect cake from this recipe. It runs for 12 minutes then stops to allow the adding of extra ingredients and scrape the sides of the pan. Then press the start button again and it runs for 1h 43mins. Leave the cake in the pan to cool for at least 10mins”.
- Another visitor (thanks Bau) made my bread machine banana bread recipe and said in that recipe’s comment section – “Definitely works on the cake setting of the Panasonic SD-YR2550. Excellent recipe.”
- Pohl Schmitt – A couple of visitors have mentioned that their Pohl Schmitt bread machines can occasionally underbake MY recipes for moist “quick breads” (e.g. banana bread & pumpkin bread). As a solution, these visitors like to premix the batter and then use the “Bake” setting (not cake setting) to create a longer baking time (versus relying on the preset cake setting) in order to fully bake their quick bread. I would try baking it for 75 or 80 minutes. Given this issue, please read the Pohl Schmitt manual carefully on how to make moist quick breads with your machine. Please post in the comment section your tips on making “quick breads” (e.g. banana bread) with your Pohl Schmitt. Also if you used the bake setting to make my recipes, what is the best baking time to use (e.g. 75 or 80 minutes)?
- One of our visitors (thanks Jas!) left the following comment about using their Pohl machine – “I pre-mixed my ingredients by hand and set the bread machine to the “Bake” setting, light crust, 85 minutes. I used skewer stickers and an instant thermometer to check the temperature before removing the bread pan out of the machine and it came out perfect”.
- Russel Hobbs Breadmaker (model # 27260) – One of my visitors (thanks Matt!) stated “I have a Russell Hobbs 27260. I used your recipe on the ‘cake’ setting. It’s come out a treat. Thanks. Cooks for 1hr 50.”
- Sunbeam Breadmaker (model # 5891) – You should use the “Quick” Setting (setting 4). According to the Sunbeam manual, the Quick setting should be used “for recipes that contain baking powder or baking soda rather than yeast to make bread or cake rise”. Moreover, according to the Sunbeam manual, the Quick setting lasts for roughly 1:40 hours whereas the Cake setting lasts for “2 hours 50 minutes”. FYI – Many of my early bread machine quick bread recipes (e.g. bread machine banana bread) were originally made on a Sunbeam using the Quick setting.
- Toastmaster 1148X Fast Bake 2-Pound Horizontal Bread Machine – This machine has 8 settings that are used primarily for making sandwich breads or for making dough. This machine does not appear to have a dedicated setting for “quick breads” (such as banana bread). FYI – According to Amazon, its “Fast Bake” setting is designed “to make fresh bread in under one hour”. Please post in the comment section if you can make banana bread, etc. with your Toastmaster 1148X.
- Toastmaster 1195 – It looks like this older machine only makes yeast-based recipes (except for setting 10 for “butter churn”). It does not have any settings for cake or baking-soda “quick breads”. Also please be aware that the “sweet bread” setting on most bread machines is for sweet yeast-based breads (and not for sweet baking soda/powder-based quick breads & cakes). Thanks Carrie for pointing out the “quick bread/cake” issue with this machine.
- West Bend Hi-Rise Bread Maker Programmable Horizontal Dual Blade (model # 47413) – I think this machine uses the “Cake” setting to make “quick breads” but its online manual is not super detailed. Please let me know in the comment section if you are using the cake setting to make quick breads (e.g. banana breads) with this machine.
- One of my visitors (thanks Andrew) stated “I verified that the Westbend Horizontal Dual Blade machine uses the “cake” setting #10 as you said. It works well for me on that bread machine”.
- Another visitor (thanks Alvyn) stated “WestBend model 47413: User manual confirms “Cake” is also for quick breads. I’m testing out a modified version of your zucchini recipe with it.”
- Dawn stated “In the Westbend Hi-Rise there is no second knead – there is only one 15 minute knead before the bake”. Therefore, you should add any chopped nuts, chocolate chips and/or fruit about 5-7 minutes after the machine starts (as there is no second mixing cycle with the “cake” setting on this West Bend).
- Yedi Total Package 19-in-1 Bread Maker (model # GV029) – You should try the “Cake” Setting (setting 10). However, this setting seems to run for only 1:33 hours which seems a little short versus other bread machines. In contrast, the quick bread/cake setting on many other bread machines runs for 1:40-1:50 hours. For MY quick bread & cake recipes, this might mean that Yedi users might need to use either a darker color setting (e.g. medium because it uses a higher temp than the light color setting) or they might have to use the “Bake” setting (setting 14) after using the “Cake” setting and bake the quick bread for an extra 10 minutes. Don’t use the “Quick Bread” setting (setting 6) on this machine because that is for fast yeast-based sandwich bread recipes. Please let me know in the comment section if you are using the cake setting to make quick breads (e.g. banana breads) with this machine.
- One of my visitors (thanks Ann) said that she made my pumpkin bread recipe and that she needed an extra 20 minutes with the “Bake” setting after using the “Cake” setting.
- Zojirushi BB-PDC20BA Home Bakery Virtuoso Plus Breadmaker (model # BB-PDC20BA) – You probably should use the “Cake” Setting (setting 13). However, one of my visitors stated that my banana bread comes out a little underbaked in this machine when using the “cake” setting. You might have to experiment with the “Dark” color crust setting (versus the “Light” color crust setting called for in my recipes) for a little extra baking. Please let me know in the comment section if you are using the “Cake” setting to make quick breads (e.g. banana breads) with this machine and if you had to use the “Dark” color crust setting.
- One of my visitors (thanks Anne!) made my Bread Machine Gingerbread and said that she used “course 13, dark crust” with her Zojirushi Virtuoso Plus and the gingerbread came out “Moist and delicious”.
- Zojirushi BB-CEC20 Home Bakery Supreme (model # BB-CEC20) – You should try the “Cake” setting. However, the total time on the cake setting is 2 hours which is a little bit longer than other machines. Please let me know in the comment section if you are using the cake setting to make quick breads (e.g. banana breads) with this machine.
- One of my visitors (thanks Shayla!!) stated “I have the Zojirushi BB-CEC20 Home Bakery Supreme and used the cake setting to make your pumpkin bread recipe today. It came out great! The 2 hour setting time made me nervous and I almost stopped it early (thought it smelt like it was beginning to burn). But I’m glad I trusted the process. It was fully cooked, not burnt, and not dry.”
- Another one of my visitors (thanks Allan!) stated “We baked banana bread using the bread machine recipe in a Zojirushi BB-CEC20 Home Bakery Supreme, and using the cake setting. The recipe was delicious, and the machine performed flawlessly. The confusion as to the length of cycle may come from the fact that the CEC-20 has a 24 minute “cool down” after baking using the cake cycle, which lengthens the cycle to 2 hours. We left it cool down for the full cycle with no regrets.”
- Zojirushi BB-HAC10 Home Bakery 1-Pound-Loaf Programmable Mini Breadmaker (model # BB-HAC10) – For this compact bread machine, you should use the “Cake” setting when making my banana bread. I would also use my 1.5 lb bread machine banana bread recipe (as my larger 2 lb bread machine banana bread recipe will probably not work well in this machine). In addition, this machine looks like it is better designed for my 1.5 lb banana bread recipe (and not my 1 lb banana bread recipe). Let me know in the comment section below if the “Cake” setting worked for you when making my 1.5 lb recipe.
If you want to know what loaf sizes (e.g. 1 lb, 1.5 lb and 2 lb) are best for your machine, please visit my Bread Machine Pan Size page. For example, two different machines might both claim to have a supposed 2 lb capacity. However, one might be better with my 1.5 lb recipes (because the machine has a compact pan & has trouble with my 2 lb recipes). Whereas, the other is better with my 2 lb recipes (because the machine has an extra large pan with plenty of room).
