Best Bread Machines – My Favorites!

Here is a list of my favorite bread machines. This page also reviews the 4 bread machines that I currently use to make my Bread Dad recipes. These bread machines range from inexpensive but functional to more costly machines that include tons of bells & whistles.

Be aware that most bread machines do an excellent job making bread. Nevertheless, brands differ in size and cost. In addition, they vary in their ability to make larger/smaller loaves, baked goods such as moist “quick breads” (e.g. banana bread) and/or gluten-free products. You need to buy a bread machine that will best produce the baked goods that your family eats (e.g. large loaves, artisan breads, gluten-free breads, etc.).

Recommendation – If you are just starting out, you might want to consider getting one of the more basic machines that cost $100 or less. It will help you to learn the basics & you can see if you enjoy making bread (without spending a ton of money on a machine). If you are a more experienced bread machine user, you might like to consider a more advanced machine (esp. if you want to experiment with more settings & a wider array of recipes).

Bread Machines Used By Bread Dad

I currently use a Hamilton Beach (model 29882) to create many of my 1.5 lb and 2 lb bread machine recipes. It was inexpensive to buy and has been pretty dependable. Unfortunately, Hamilton Beach stopped making this model around late 2022/early 2023. Before my Hamilton Beach, I used a Sunbeam bread machine for many years (before it finally kicked the bucket).

In June 2024, I purchased the following 3 bread machines to test them out. FYI – Take a look at the picture below to see the relative sizes of the 3 machines. There are also pictures further down of bread loaves made with these machines.

Bread Machines Bought By Bread Dad In 2024 – KBS, Briskind & Zojirushi

Three bread machines sitting in a row on the floor.

Zojirushi Home Bakery Virtuoso Plus Breadmaker (model # BB-PDC20BA) – I bought this Zojirushi as an early birthday present to myself! It is a two paddle bread machine with lots of bells & whistles. It easily handles 2 lb Bread Dad recipes and the loaves look more like traditional loaves (in comparison to the “blocks” created by many other bread machines). Positives – Better loaf shape than many other machines, large capacity & lots of different settings to play with. Negatives – Takes up more space in the kitchen and it is expensive (versus many other bread machines). Also given its large bread pan, this machine will have a difficult time with smaller bread recipes. Verdict – This machine works GREAT with Bread Dad’s 2 lb sandwich bread recipes! Can’t wait to experiment with all of the different settings. However, it is a little different than my other machines. For example, it has a long initial rest period (vs my other machines that start mixing immediately when the start button is pressed). However, if desired, you can eliminate this initial rest period (read the manual for directions).

2 lb White Bread made with my Zojirushi

Briskind 19-in-1 Compact Bread Maker Machine (model # BM8605) – A number of my visitors have requested 1 lb recipes. Therefore, I bought this Briskind model in order to experiment with creating 1 lb bread machine recipes. Positives – It is relatively inexpensive (versus other bread machines), very compact (great if you do not have much counter space) and the small loaves are perfect for people who want fresh bread but don’t have a large family or don’t want a lot of leftover bread. Downside – The bread pan is small. This machine can not handle most of my 1.5 lb or 2 lb Bread Dad recipes (which are larger than the company’s internal recipes). However, I am starting to add a bunch of 1 lb bread machine recipes to Bread Dad (such as my recipes for 1 lb bread machine white bread, 1 lb bread machine multigrain bread and 1 lb bread machine oatmeal bread). Verdict – I am really liking my Briskind!! Perfect for Bread Dad’s 1 lb recipes.

KBS 2LB Bread Maker, 19-in-1 Automatic Bread Machine (model # MBF-016) – I bought this model because I wanted to test out its ceramic bread pan (as most bread machines use Teflon-coated bread pans) and because it has 19 different settings. However, the bread pan is shorter & less wide than the pan in my Hamilton Beach bread machine (model # 29882). The bread pan for this KBS model is roughly 5 x 6 3/4 x 5 inches (versus the Hamilton Beach bread pan which is roughly 6 x 7 x 5 1/4 inches). This machine should be able to handle my 1 lb bread machine recipes & many of my “regular” (those that are not super fluffy) 1.5 lb bread machine recipes (such as basic white bread, whole wheat bread or oatmeal bread). However, this KBS model probably can not handle my 2 lb bread machine recipes and the larger Bread Dad recipes where the dough is made in the bread machine but baked in an oven (such as my pizza dough, French bread and Italian bread recipes). The machine’s 2 lb capacity is based on the company’s internal recipes (which run smaller than my recipes). Given the pan size, it might also have a problem with my super fluffy/tall 1.5 lb recipes (such as my extra soft bread machine white bread). Verdict – So far, I have a positive but mixed opinion. I like the ceramic pan & wide variety of settings. However, I dislike the slightly smaller pan (versus my Hamilton Beach & Zojirushi machines). This machine works best with my 1 lb recipes and most (but not all) of my 1.5 lb bread machine-ONLY recipes.

2025 Bread Machine Purchase

Hamilton Beach Automatic Bread Maker Machine (model # 29982) – In 2025, I purchased this machine as a potential “successor” to the Hamilton Beach (model # 29882) that I currently use & really like. I thought it was a newer/updated version of my current Hamilton Beach. Verdict – I currently have a neutral rating on this model. The machine was relatively inexpensive, is more compact (versus my older model) and I have always liked the dependability of Hamilton Beach bread machines. However, I was disappointed by this model’s appearance (both the shape of the machine & the amount of plastic) and the fact that its bread pan was smaller than the one in my older Hamilton Beach (model # 29882). FYI – This bread machine works better with my 1.5 lb recipes (and is not suited for my more fluffy 2 lb recipes).

Be aware that bread machine bread pans can VARY a lot between manufacturers. Interior dimensions can be significantly different. Moreover, some pans are more horizontal while others create a “vertical” bread (as the bread pan is tall and not so wide). Do your research on the pan sizes and shapes before buying a machine. Make sure to buy something that can handle the recipes & loave sizes that you like to make for your family. For more information on pan sizes & interior dimensions, please read the information on Bread Dad’s Bread Machine Pan Sizes page.

In a couple of years, after my bank account recovers from my 2024 bread machine spending splurge (shh – don’t tell my wife), I plan to buy one of the following bread machines as my next machine to test out:

Hamilton Beach Premium Dough & Bread Maker Machine with Auto Fruit and Nut Dispenser (model # 29890)

  • FYI – Bread Dad owns and uses an older Hamilton Beach Bread Maker (model 29882 – not the newer 29890 model). It looks like my current Hamilton Beach bread machine was “retired” by the company in 2022/2023.
  • Hamilton Beach Premium Dough & Bread Maker Machine (29890) has 21 settings including basic bread, French, whole grain, dough, gluten-free, keto and sourdough.
  • It also has an automatic dispenser that adds dried fruit & nuts to a recipe at the right time during the mixing/kneading process.
  • I like Hamilton Beach’s detailed instruction manuals (because they usually show the kneading, rising and baking times for each setting). This helps you to find the appropriate setting for recipes (e.g. banana breads). This can be confusing on some machines (given similar setting names such as Quick vs Rapid vs Quick Bread).
  • Uses only one mixing paddle.
  • This machine produces the standard bread machine “block” shaped loaf. This is the standard loaf shape with most bread machines (except some of the larger and/or high-end bread machines).
  • Always read actual customer reviews on the seller’s website before buying a bread machine in order to see if the machine is right for your family & kitchen. You will be able to find many pros & cons by reading these reviews.

KITCHENARM 29-in-1 SMART Bread Machine (model # 85203)

  • KITCHENARM 29-in-1 SMART Bread Machine is popular with Bread Dad visitors.
  • Highly rated on selling websites.
  • This bread machine has 29 automatic programs including Basic White, Sweet, French, Whole Wheat, Gluten Free, Sourdough, Cake, Jam, Yogurt, Pasta, Dough, etc.
  • The number of settings (29) is more than the settings on most other bread machines.
  • This bread machine even has settings for breads such as “dark rye”, “Spanish”, “salt free” and “ciabatta”.
  • Beyond the recipes included in the documents with the machine, the company website also provides online recipes for this bread machine.
  • This machine uses one mixing paddle to mix & knead. It is not a dual paddle machine (such as the Zojirushi Home Bakery Virtuoso).
  • Always read actual customer reviews on the seller’s website before buying a bread machine in order to see if the machine is right for your family & kitchen. You will be able to find many pros & cons by reading these reviews.

Amazon Basics Bread Maker, 2 Pound Non-Stick (model # BM1349-UL-B)

  • The Amazon Basics Bread Maker is inexpensive compared to many bread machines.
  • Most of the Amazon Basics products that I have purchased have been pretty dependable.
  • It has 14 settings including gluten-free, cake, yogurt and “homemade”.
  • 2 pound capacity.
  • The only thing that semi-concerns me when I examine a photo of the machine is that it has a vertical bread pan (versus a traditional horizontal-oriented bread pan). Breads created with vertical pans have more of the “hard” side crust (and less of the softer top crust) versus horizontal bread pans. In my opinion, the vertical loaf also looks less like a traditional bread loaf (versus breads made with horizontal pans).

Video – Why Bread Dad LOVES Bread Machines! 19 Reasons

Other Bread Machines Used By Bread Dad’s Visitors – If you don’t like my picks, there are many other great bread machines. Below are some of the other bread machines that are used by the visitors to Bread Dad. Nevertheless, you should make sure that any machine that you purchase includes the settings that you want and can manage the loaf sizes that you want. Not all bread machines can make banana breads/cakes, create extra large loaves and/or handle gluten-free recipes.

  • Breadman 2 lb Professional Bread Maker, Stainless Steel, BK1050S – This machine has 14 settings to help you make white bread, whole wheat, French bread, quick breads, artisan dough, pizza dough, jams, gluten-free, etc. It also has a fruit and nut dispenser, collapsible kneading paddle and more.
  • Breville BBM800XL Custom Loaf Bread Maker – This is one of the more expensive bread machines. It has an automatic fruit & nut dispenser and a unique collapsible kneading paddle to minimize the hole in the bottom of the bread.
  • CBK-110C Cuisinart Compact Automatic Bread Maker – The compact size of this machine is a benefit for families with smaller kitchens. It uses a vertical design in order to maximize space.
  • Cuisinart Bread Maker Machine CCBK-110NAS – This is a very popular compact bread machine with “12 preprogrammed menu options”.
  • Elite Gourmet EBM8103B – This machine supposedly can make up to 2 lb loaves and has 19 different settings. Be aware that it has a vertical-oriented bread pan.
  • KEEPEEZ 20-in-1 Ultra Quiet Bread Maker Machine – This large bread machine supposed can make 2 lb, 2.5 lb and 3 lb loaves. It also uses a ceramic bread pan. It also has 20 settings include “gluten-free, pizza, dough, sourdough. yogurt, etc.”
  • Neretva 20-IN-1 Bread Maker – This popular bread machine has a ceramic pan and has 20 settings including “basic/quick/french/sweet/whole-wheat/gluten-free/potato/corn/sugerless/cake/dessert/knead/toast dough/pizza dough/ferment/bake/jam/yogurt/dried meat floss/homemade”. The supposed loaf capacity for this machine is “1.65LB and 2LB”.
  • OSIPOTO 17 in 1 Automatic Stainless Steel Bread Machine – This popular bread machine has 17 settings such as “basic loaf, cake, whole wheat, jam, yogurt or gluten-free bread”. It supposedly can make “3 loaf sizes (1LB, 1.5LB, 2LB)”.
  • Oster Expressbake Bread Maker (CKSTBR9050-NP) – The manufacturer claims that this bread machine can make 1 lb, 1.5 lb and 2 lb bread loaves. It has 13 settings including basic, French, whole wheat, dough, cake, bake, gluten-free, etc.
  • Panasonic SD-RD250 Bread Maker with Automatic Fruit & Nut Dispenser – Renowned for its electronics, Panasonic also makes bread machines.
  • Pohl Schmitt Stainless Steel Bread Machine Bread Maker – This machine has 14 settings for “Whole Grain Bread, French bread, Quick Bread (no yeast), Dough, Cake”, etc. According to the company, it also makes 1 lb, 1.4 lb and 2.2 lb bread loaves.
  • PowerXL 4-in-1 Versa Chef – This “combo” machine is interesting because it functions as a bread maker, air fryer, slow cooker and oven!
  • SAKI Bread Maker Machine, 3 LB XL 12-in-1 Programmable (model # SK-BM891) – This large bread maker has a ceramic pan and focuses on 2 lb, 2.5 lb and 3 lb loaves.
  • West Bend Hi-Rise Bread Maker (47413) – A number of our visitors own this machine. They like this machine because it has a larger capacity than many traditional bread machines. According to the company, this machine can handle “2 lb, 2.5 lb, and 3 lb. loaf sizes”. In contrast, most traditional bread machines only make 1.5 lb and 2 lb loaves. Larger loaves are great for large families who eat a lot of bread. However, be aware that there are not many 2.5 lb and 3 lb recipes online. You might be stuck with the manufacturer’s recipes for these larger loaves or you will need to experiment with “upsizing” a favorite 2 lb bread machine recipe.
  • Zojirushi BB-HAC10 Home Bakery 1-Pound-Loaf Programmable Mini Breadmaker – This popular bread machine is designed for people who want smaller breads (1 lb loaves) and baked goods. Best for individuals or people with small families (who don’t want to deal with lots of leftovers or having to freeze larger 2 lb loaves). The machine has settings for “basic bread (regular, firm), soft, French, dough, cookie/pasta dough, cake, jam and quick bread”.
